Comprehensive Eye Examinations

We take great pride in our level of professionalism when it comes to your visual examination. Walk-Ins are welcome or by appointment.
Our examinations include:
-Recording of
symptoms and visual history
-An assessment of visual function (standard of vision & refraction)
-Visual field assessment
-Assessment of
binocular vision (stereopsis, muscle coordination)
-Tonometry (pressure
testing)
-Ophthalmoscopy (internal health assessment)
-Fundus Photography
-Visual Field Test
-Color vision assessment
-Full advice with regard to ocular health, visual requirements
in relation to occupation and lifestyle.
-Children are always welcome for
their examinations.
Further tests will be done as symptoms and findings dictate.
We do allow a minimum of 30 minutes to carry out your eye examination.

Designer Eyewear

We take great pride in our collection of designer frame lines. We have
picked beautiful high quality lines from all over the world. Before we take on
a designer line we carefully inspect the craftsmanship and make sure price
justifies the product. Some of our lines are exclusive to us only and must meet
standards by the designer to assure their product is displayed in a
professional atmosphere.
Frame materials range from Titanium, Gold, Silver, Stainless Steel, and high quality laminated plastics. We also carry
bendable frames for extra durability.
Understanding the need for budget conscious patients we also carry value lines. These lines must also be made
with quality in mind but are more mainstream to the public making the price
lower. We cater to all patients and offer products in all price ranges.

Contact Lenses

We specialize in contact lens fittings of all lens types such as:
Soft Contact Lenses
Soft contact lenses are
made of soft, flexible plastics that allow oxygen to pass through to the
cornea. Soft contact lenses may be easier to adjust to and are more comfortable
than rigid gas permeable lenses. Newer soft lens materials include
silicone-hydrogels to provide more oxygen to your eye while you wear your
lenses.
Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) Contact Lenses
Rigid gas permeable contact lenses (RGPs) are more durable and
resistant to deposit buildup, and generally give a clearer, crisper vision.
They tend to be less expensive over the life of the lens since they last longer
than soft contact lenses. They are easier to handle and less likely to tear.
However, they are not as comfortable initially as soft contacts and it may take
a few weeks to get used to wearing RGPs, compared to several days for soft
contacts.
Extended Wear Contact Lenses
Extended wear contact lenses are available for overnight or
continuous wear ranging from one to six nights or up to 30 days. Extended wear
contact lenses are usually soft contact lenses. They are made of flexible
plastics that allow oxygen to pass through to the cornea. There are also a very
few rigid gas permeable lenses that are designed and approved for overnight
wear. Length of continuous wear depends on lens type and your eye care
professional’s evaluation of your tolerance for overnight wear. It’s important
for the eyes to have a rest without lenses for at least one night following
each scheduled removal.
Disposable (Replacement Schedule)
Contact Lenses
The majority of soft contact lens wearers are
prescribed some type of frequent replacement schedule. “Disposable,” as defined
by the FDA, means used once and discarded. With a true daily wear disposable
schedule, a brand new pair of lenses is used each day.
Some soft contact lenses are referred to as “disposable” , but actually, they are for
frequent/planned replacement. With extended wear lenses, the lenses may be worn
continuously for the prescribed wearing period (for example, 7 days to 30 days)
and then thrown away. When you remove your lenses, make sure to clean and
disinfect them properly before reinserting.

Lasik Vision Correction

What is LASIK?
The cornea is a part of the eye that helps focus light to
create an image on the retina. It works in much the same way that the lens of a
camera focuses light to create an image on film. The bending and focusing of
light is also known as refraction. Usually the shape of the cornea and the eye
are not perfect and the image on the retina is out-of-focus (blurred) or
distorted. These imperfections in the focusing power of the eye are called
refractive errors. There are three primary types of refractive errors: myopia,
hyperopia and astigmatism. Persons with myopia, or nearsightedness, have more
difficulty seeing distant objects as clearly as near objects. Persons with
hyperopia, or farsightedness, have more difficulty seeing near objects as
clearly as distant objects. Astigmatism is a distortion of the image on the
retina caused by irregularities in the cornea or lens of the eye. Combinations
of myopia and astigmatism or hyperopia and astigmatism are common. Glasses or
contact lenses are designed to compensate for the eye's imperfections. Surgical
procedures aimed at improving the focusing power of the eye are called
refractive surgery. In LASIK surgery, precise and controlled removal of corneal
tissue by a special laser reshapes the cornea changing its focusing
power.
Austin Ryan Optika is affiliated with many surgery centers
throughout the tri-state area. We offer initial consultations to see if in fact
you are a good candidate for Lasik Vision Correction. If you are we can make
the arrangements for your surgery and will do all follow up consultations up to
one year.
